Saltpond: The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) paid a glowing tribute to late highlife legend Ebo Taylor during his final funeral rites held in Saltpond on Saturday, August 1, describing him as one of the most influential figures in Ghana's music history. A delegation from Accra, led by MUSIGA executive and CEO of EML Entertainment Ltd, Emmanuel Emmel Kwame Edem Doe-Bruce, joined hundreds of mourners, musicians, and dignitaries at the funeral to pay their last respects to the celebrated highlife icon.
According to Ghana Web, the legendary guitarist, composer, and producer's influence extended far beyond his music, with his achievements playing a key role in promoting Ghanaian music internationally and contributing to the growth of the local music industry, including the establishment and development of MUSIGA. Ebo Taylor, who died on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90, enjoyed a music career spanning more than six decades.
Widely regarded as one of the architects of modern highlife and Afrobeat, his music inspired generations of musicians both in Ghana and abroad. His funeral attracted several prominent personalities, including highlife legends Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Pat Thomas, reggae star Rocky Dawuni, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority Abeiku Santana, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
MUSIGA said Ebo Taylor's legacy would continue to inspire future generations and pledged to do more to honor and support Ghana's music legends while they are alive, ensuring their immense contributions to the country's cultural heritage are never forgotten.
