Bolgatanga: The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has denied reports that it has imposed a blanket ban on events and social gatherings held beyond 2000 hours within the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Assembly addressed a publication by a section of the media in Bolgatanga, which suggested that a 2000 hours deadline had been placed on passing-out ceremonies and launching events. The Assembly described this report as inaccurate.
Mr. Peter Atogewe Wedam, the Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, stated that the publication, attributed to the Presiding Member of the Assembly and circulated widely on social media, did not reflect the official position of the Assembly.
The statement clarified that while there is a by-law concerning nocturnal events and ceremonies, it does not constitute a blanket ban on events beyond 2000 hours. The Assembly revised a by-law at a mandatory meeting in September 2024 concerning time limitations for nighttime activities, specifically prohibiting persons below 18 years from attending social gatherings beyond midnight.
The Assembly urged the public to disregard any impression that it had imposed a 2000 hours deadline on social activities. It also emphasized that, in line with the 24-Hour Economy initiative, the Assembly cannot pass by-laws or make resolutions that contradict national government policy.
The statement called on the media to ensure accurate public information by giving the clarification necessary publicity.
