Accra: Madam Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, has reaffirmed MTN's commitments and obligation to improve lives through strategic investments in health, education, and economic empowerment. She emphasized that MTN's role extends beyond just providing connectivity, highlighting the company's substantial investments in the country's long-term prosperity through infrastructure, financial inclusion, education, and healthcare.
According to Ghana News Agency, in a video message shared by MTN to congratulate Ghana on its 69th independence anniversary, Wiafe expressed pride in MTN's journey alongside the nation. As MTN Ghana marks 30 years of partnership with the country, the company aims to evolve into a business focused on connectivity, fintech, and platforms, expanding infrastructure, scaling digital platforms, and deepening financial inclusion.
Wiafe pointed out that leadership is measured not only by market share but also by the lives impacted, opportunities created, and futures secured. MTN Ghana has emerged as more than a telecom provider; it has become a primary contributor to national growth, navigating economic challenges and global uncertainties. Over the past three decades, MTN has connected people, enabled businesses, and supported community growth across Ghana.
Beyond these efforts, MTN continues to contribute to national development through taxes, levies, infrastructure investment, job creation, and sustained support for government initiatives that drive Ghana's progress. In 2024 alone, MTN Ghana paid a record GHS8.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes to the state, a 45.8 percent increase over the previous year, accounting for over 50 percent of the company's total revenue.
In 2023, MTN reinforced its position as Ghana's highest corporate taxpayer, contributing GHS5.9 billion in direct and indirect taxes, along with GHS0.4 billion in fees and levies as statutory payments. As Ghana embraces a digital future, MTN Ghana remains committed to being a partner in progress, a responsible corporate citizen, and a catalyst for national development, striving to build a promising future for the country.
