MTN Ghana Marks 30th Anniversary with Commitment to Digital Inclusion and Economic Development

Accra: MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing digital inclusion, strengthening corporate accountability, and supporting Ghana's socio-economic development as the telecommunications company celebrates its 30th anniversary. The company highlights that the trust and confidence from its customers, partners, media, and stakeholders have been pivotal in its growth over the past thirty years, contributing six per cent of Ghana's tax revenue.

According to Ghana Web, during the MTN Ghana Regional Media and Stakeholder Forum for the Western and Central Regions held in Takoradi, Chief Internal Audit and Forensic Officer Michael Gbewonyo emphasized the anniversary theme, '30 Years of Progress, Powered by You,' which signifies the collective efforts shaping the company's success. Gbewonyo highlighted the transformation of Ghana's communications landscape, where services once considered luxuries are now accessible to millions, enabling virtual business meetings, instant Mobile Money transactions, and easy access to educational resources online.

Gbewonyo expressed gratitude to customers, employees, business partners, communities, regulators, stakeholders, and the media for their ongoing support, stating that their trust is the foundation of the company's operations. He underscored the importance of accountability and transparency in sustainable business growth, emphasizing that his role is to ensure MTN remains accountable and deserving of the confidence placed in them by customers and stakeholders.

He highlighted MTN Ghana's significant contribution to the national economy, noting that the company currently provides approximately six per cent of Ghana's total tax revenue, reinforcing its status as a leading corporate taxpayer. MTN continues to invest heavily in expanding digital connectivity and supporting the government's goal of creating an inclusive digital economy.

Beyond its commercial operations, MTN invests in community development through the MTN Ghana Foundation. Thousands of young people have benefited from scholarships and educational support, while investments in healthcare, education, and economic empowerment improve livelihoods across the Western and Central Regions and the entire country.

Gbewonyo reiterated MTN's commitment to being more than a telecommunications company, positioning itself as 'a force for good' in Ghana's development. He acknowledged that these achievements would not have been possible without the contributions of customers, development partners, communities, the media, and stakeholders whose feedback has helped the company enhance its products and services.

He praised journalists for their role in informing the public, amplifying community concerns, and holding corporate institutions accountable, thanking them for their honest feedback and for highlighting community issues.

Gbewonyo affirmed MTN Ghana's dedication to strengthening relationships with stakeholders as the company embarks on its next growth phase, promising continued investments to connect more people, support businesses, bridge the digital divide, and contribute to Ghana's economic development.

The Regional Media and Stakeholder Forum was part of MTN Ghana's 30th-anniversary celebrations, bringing together editors, journalists, and key stakeholders from the Western and Central Regions to discuss the company's performance, digital innovation, and future growth strategy.
