Ho, July 28, GNA – Mr Samuel Duku, Field Services Manager, Eastern, Volta and Oti Regions of MTN Ghana, has revealed that network challenges over the past weeks in and around the Hohoe Municipality was due to multiple fibre cuts on metre cables.
Residents in these areas, especially in the Hohoe enclave, had lamented the disruption in the use of mobile data as well as the low quality of phone calls.
Mr Duku who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a Volta Regional Media and Stakeholders’ Forum in Ho, said there had been fibre cuts on metre cables used within the territory.
He said due to the construction of the Eastern Corridor Road spanning from Jasikan towards Hohoe and from Hohoe towards the Kpando enclave, contractors normally in their line of work, do cut the cables quite often.
Mr Duku said although there was a team in the enclave, it became difficult getting them to re-splice cut cables immediately and this had been the cause network outages in the area.
“Because of the multiple number of cuts, the quality on the cable has degraded quite a lot so we will do relocation or replacing the old cables,” he explained.
Mr Duku noted that the replacement also came with a cost so what the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) Ghana was waiting for is for the contractor to finish an appreciable level work and defined the gutters to enable the relocation of the sections.
He appealed to customers to bear with the Service provider.
“What we know is that NITA is working assiduously to have those portions replaced and they gave us a commitment to finish by end of August so we would have a very good network in the area by the end of August,” he added.
