Accra: Members of Parliament (MPs) in Ghana currently earn approximately GHS60,000 a month as their basic salary, excluding allowances. This information comes from JoyNews Research and Data Analyst Caleb Ziblim, who highlighted the significant increase arising from the government's newly approved salary structure, which took effect in 2025.
According to Ghana Web, Caleb Ziblim explained that the new salary structure was implemented as part of a broader adjustment affecting the salaries of MPs, ministers, and other public officials. Previously, MPs received about GHS30,000 per month until 2024. This adjustment appears to have contributed to an increase in the compensation costs at the presidency from 2023 to 2026, despite a reduction in the number of appointees.
Ziblim further elaborated, stating, "So, we know that for the past four years, the MPs, ministers and all of that were making about GHS30,000 a month but then from 2025 going, they are now making GHS60,000 a month so that's about the problem." He shared this insight in an illustration on the subject, which was posted on X on August 30, 2026.
The analyst emphasized that the GHS60,000 monthly salary does not account for additional allowances received by MPs. "That's without the allowances. So, that's about double," he added, underscoring the substantial increase in earnings.
Ziblim also pointed out the financial implications of the new salary structure, noting a significant rise in the budget allocated for compensation. "So, we are assuming that the jump from 100 million to now 248 million is because the president is now using the new and approved salary structure by Parliament, so this could explain why the jump from 100 million to 248 million," he explained.
Members of Parliament now earn approximately GHS60,000 monthly, which more than doubles their previous earnings, not including any additional allowances.
