MOYS organises stakeholders meeting to consolidate sports act

GNA – The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has organised a one-day stakeholder engagement forum to consider the draft Legislative Instrument (L.

  1. I) for the Sports Act 2016 (Act 934).

The forum held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Mensvic Hotel in Accra, saw participants from various sporting bodies across the country.

Mr Mustapha Ussif, Minister for Youth and Sports in his opening remarks at the meeting was elated to see all key stakeholders present as far as the introduction and contribution of the Sports Act was concerned.

He noted that it was imperative to solicit ideas and support from all stakeholders to give the L.I meaning and make it operational within the law.

According to the Minister, everyone present had a critical role to play to make the L.I workable adding that their contributions will enrich the Act to make it whole.

He indicated that the draft L.I will go a long way to provide livelihood for many young people with great talents. “It is sad to see our youth with great talents wasting on our streets,” he added.

Mr. Ussif charged participants to discuss and explore the issues dispassionately to refine the sports laws of the country.

He expressed optimism that the meeting will be the turning point for sports as the day was noted as the defining moment of sports in Ghana.

Alhaji Hafiz Adam, Chief Director of the Ministry, applauded participants for their presence at the meeting which demonstrates their dedication and passion for the development of sports.

He noted that the purpose of the meeting was to come together with great ideas to satisfy the passion of Ghanaians.

He said the Ministry was under a new leadership and new momentum and therefore important for all stakeholders to become part of the moment with their expertise to help realize the vision of the sector Minister.

He further indicated that it was heartwarming to note that all stakeholders had their hands on deck with a collective effort to make the L.I the best and acceptable by all.
