Sunyani: The Ultimate Women Foundation (UWF), a women-centered Non-Governmental Organisation, has expressed that the annual Mother's Day celebration should extend beyond the typical customs of gift-giving, card sharing, and family gatherings.
According to Ghana News Agency, UWF is dedicated to empowering indigenous women by addressing challenges that hinder their holistic growth, enabling them to make meaningful contributions to society. As Ghana observes the 2026 Mother's Day, Dr. Freda Prempeh, a former legislator and the Founder of UWF, emphasized the importance of recognizing the inspiring stories of role models and female figures.
Mother's Day, celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May in Ghana, honors the dedication, care, and sacrifices of mothers within families and communities. This year's celebration falls on May 10. In a discussion with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Dr. Prempeh, a former Member of Parliament for Tano North and former Minister of State, highlighted the need for Ghana to also recognize strong and influential mothers.
Dr. Prempeh stressed the importance of appreciating not only mothers but also grandmothers, aunties, sisters, stepmothers, teachers, and caregivers. She noted that in a typical Ghanaian society, the upbringing and development of children is a shared responsibility, extending beyond the nuclear family.
The former MP commended all mothers and women for their invaluable contributions to shaping a better society, as the nation commemorates Mother's Day.
