Dormaa-ahenkro: Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, has instructed the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly to advance the Kokuan community's transformation into a prominent tourist destination. The Assembly has been tasked with submitting proposals and a comprehensive road map to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to enhance eco-tourism within the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Addae Akwaboa issued this directive during his 'Accounting to the People' tour, where he engaged with the community at Dormaa-Ahenkro. When questioned about the government's stance on Kokuan's tourism potential, the Regional Minister emphasized the necessity for the Assembly to detail the community's tourism prospects in a proposal to be considered by the Ministry of Tourism. He indicated that the proposal should function as a detailed road map and suggested utilizing the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for financing the project.
In addition to tourism development, Mr. Akwaboa addressed concerns from egg traders in the municipality, encouraging calm as the government works towards resolving export issues with neighboring Burkina Faso. He also highlighted plans for establishing a medical school at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) to support the Sunyani Teaching Hospital with trained medical practitioners.
Furthermore, Mr. Addae Akwaboa revealed that GETFUND is assessing stalled projects at UENR's Dormaa campus, collaborating with the Ministry of Education to resume and complete these educational initiatives. He assured that efforts are underway to finalize abandoned projects at the Community Day Senior High School in Danyame and complete the Dormaa-Ahenkro-Koraso-Aboabo Road project.
Meanwhile, Mr. Agyemang Kyere Somey, a communications team member of the NDC in the municipality, remarked on the potential for Kokuan's tourism development to generate employment and accelerate socio-economic growth. He highlighted Kokuan's attractions, including mountainous rocks connecting Ghana and Cote D'Ivoire, water features, a paraglider scene, a zipline base, and a grotto.
