Accra: The aftermath of the heavy floodwaters that engulfed major parts of Accra on Monday, June 29, 2026, has left several residents stranded, while properties were damaged. The downpour, which began on the evening of Sunday, June 28, and continued into Monday, June 29, 2026, flooded several areas, submerging homes and sweeping away vehicles and other belongings.
According to Ghana Web, the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) launched a flood rescue and evacuation operation code-named 'Operation Boafo' to support affected residents across parts of the Greater Accra Region. The exercise, which began on Monday, June 29, 2026, formed part of the Regiment's mandate to provide disaster response and humanitarian assistance during emergencies.
Communities that benefited from the operation include Klagon, Tse Addo, Circle, Mallam, the Gbawe area, Teshie-Bush Road, and the ICGC area. Photos from the operation show military personnel wading through floodwaters and using rubber boats to rescue stranded residents and transport them to safer locations.
