La dade-kotopon: The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has lent its support to a community clean-up exercise in La Dade-Kotopon, aimed at promoting environmental sanitation and mitigating flooding risks.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was part of a nationwide two-day clean-up campaign spearheaded by the President. In support of this effort, MIIF donated essential sanitation equipment to the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDKMA), enhancing their capability to maintain the municipality's cleanliness.
On a rainy Saturday morning, MIIF's management and staff, led by Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Justina Nelson, joined the local assembly in a more than three-hour-long clean-up drive. The exercise commenced near the Embassy of Togo and extended to the vicinity of the United States Embassy. Participants engaged in activities such as desilting clogged drains, pruning overgrown vegetation, and clearing waste from major streets.
MIIF's contribution included wheelbarrows, machetes, rakes, shovels, and brooms, which were handed over to the assembly to aid their ongoing sanitation efforts. Mrs. Nelson emphasized that the initiative aligns with MIIF's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policy, showcasing their dedication to sustainable community development.
"This initiative is imperative. It is in line with the Reset agenda of President John Mahama for us to come together to clean Ghana for our collective good," Mrs. Nelson stated. She expressed gratitude towards her team and LaDKMA for their collaboration, urging citizens and residents to actively participate in maintaining a clean environment. She also committed to making such clean-up exercises a regular part of MIIF's contribution to national development.
LaDKMA's Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Isaac Okumtey Anim, praised the effort and expressed appreciation for the donated equipment. He highlighted the importance of such tools in effectively carrying out sanitation activities and ensuring that the municipality remains clean and well-maintained.
