Accra: The Methodist Church Ghana has called on its Ministers to mobilise material and physical support for persons affected by the recent floods in parts of Accra. The Church also urged Ministers to open church facilities to accommodate displaced victims where necessary.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Most Reverend Professor Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, made the call in a message expressing concern over the impact of the heavy rains that caused flooding in parts of the capital on Monday. He encouraged Ministers of the Church to provide whatever assistance they could mobilise for affected persons and communities.
'Our Ministers are encouraged to provide whatever material and physical support they can mobilize for those needing help including, where needed, opening up church facilities to house those needing temporary accommodation,' he said. The Presiding Bishop extended the Church's thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the floods, describing the situation as distressing.
He prayed for the swift rescue of persons trapped by the floods and comfort for those who had lost their valuables. 'I pray that help will come quickly for those trapped in various locations and those who have lost valuables,' he added.
The appeal comes as emergency response agencies and volunteers continue efforts to assist residents in flood-hit communities following the heavy downpour that inundated several parts of Accra.
