Sunyani: Scores of journalists, media practitioners, and local hip-life artistes gathered in the early hours of Friday to pay their last respects at the interment of the late Elvis Adi Okumko, widely known as DJ Kazopy. The popular radio presenter passed away at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, after a brief illness.
According to Ghana News Agency, DJ Kazopy's mortal remains were laid in state for public viewing at New-Dormaa, a suburb of Sunyani. Hundreds of mourners, including the bereaved family, congregated to honor the life of the celebrated DJ. Before his untimely demise, DJ Kazopy was known for his work at various radio stations across Ghana, concluding his career at Sompa FM in Sunyani.
Local and emerging artistes remembered him as a pivotal figure in the entertainment industry, renowned for his commitment to nurturing new talent. In a book of condolence, the Naja Empire team, composed of hip-life artistes, expressed their gratitude for his passion for music and dedication to grooming young artistes. Michael Asiedu, known as DJ Ahoafe, also paid tribute, acknowledging Kazopy's humility and the significant loss to the local entertainment scene.
The Very Reverend Dr. Solomon Bruce, on behalf of the Sunyani Wesley Cathedral of the Methodist Church, remarked on Kazopy's gentlemanly nature, noting the profound impact of his loss on both Sunyani and the nation. Mr. Yaw Aboagye Boadi, General Manager of Sompa FM, echoed these sentiments in an interview, highlighting DJ Kazopy's hardworking, respectful, and disciplined character. "In fact, we have lost a great DJ," he concluded.
