Accra: Alhaji Ibrahim Fussein Faila, the Municipal Chief Executive for the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipality, has urged residents to maintain the environmental progress achieved during a recent clean-up exercise. He stressed the importance of avoiding a return to indiscriminate littering and dumping, which had previously plagued the community.
According to Ghana News Agency, the MCE commended residents and participants of the successful two-day clean-up initiative, which involved community members from diverse backgrounds working together to clear significant amounts of refuse and debris. Faila attributed the area's previous sanitation issues to environmental misconduct and emphasized the need for all residents to contribute to maintaining the newly achieved cleanliness.
In an interview, Faila asserted that the assembly is committed to ensuring environmental cleanliness, as it is essential for healthy living. He called on individuals within the municipality to demonstrate daily commitment to this cause. He also warned that the assembly would enforce its bye-laws to penalize irresponsible environmental practices until a behavioral change is achieved.
Faila highlighted his dedication to leveraging his understanding of the community's challenges to improve the area. He pointed out the transformation of Madina Zongo Junction as an example of progress under his leadership. The assembly's taskforce will continue to monitor and address non-compliance with sanitation regulations.
Following the national clean-up exercise, Faila announced plans to implement sustainable measures to foster community discipline and pride. He emphasized the shared responsibility of proper sanitation management, noting that negligence by one resident could affect the entire community.
