Bechem: Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region, has urged educational institutions to inculcate the habit of environmental cleanliness and preservation in students and pupils. He emphasized that when young people develop environmental discipline, they will grow to preserve and sustain the environment.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Frimpong shared this advice during the launch of the Municipal edition of the 2026 National Sanitation Day (NSD) at Bechem. He encouraged the community members not to wait for NSD to keep their surroundings clean but to practice environmental sanitation daily.
Mr. Frimpong noted that NSD has significantly impacted proper waste management and sanitation in the area. He urged the community to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse to prevent disease outbreaks. He also commended the Tano South Local Council of Churches for donating dustbins to control littering and maintain cleanliness in the municipality.
Mr. Malik Seidu, the Tano South Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, praised the residents, especially the youth, for their impressive turnout. He encouraged them to maintain cleanliness in their homes and surroundings and warned against throwing garbage and plastic waste into gutters to prevent flooding during the rainy season.
The event culminated in a clean-up exercise led by Mr. Frimpong, involving students, local chiefs, and community leaders. They cleared choked gutters and collected plastic waste and containers throughout the Bechem Township to mark the launch.
