Accra: Ghanaian media personality, entrepreneur, and Convener for Women In Sustainability Africa (WiSA), Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong, has urged women to enhance their capabilities to earn money but cautioned against pursuing money at all costs. She emphasized that financial independence is vital, but warned that chasing money could lead to regretful decisions.
According to Ghana Web, Sarpong made these comments while speaking at the African Women's Health and Wealth Conference (AWoHW), held at the Shippers House in Accra on March 5, 2026. She stated, "Women must make money but not chase it, because doing so will make them do anything and everything for money." She advised women to focus on acquiring assets rather than liabilities and to scrutinize their spending habits.
Sarpong also highlighted the importance of health, urging women to prioritize it as it is essential for continued productivity. Additionally, she encouraged women to build social capital by forming networks and relationships, as opportunities often arise through interpersonal connections.
She pointed out that sustaining savings requires discipline, noting, "If you spend beyond what you make, it would be difficult to cater for tomorrow." To further empower women, she revealed plans to train 16,000 women in sustainable farming, with the initiative set to launch soon.
WiSA, the organization led by Sarpong, is a Pan-African entity that collaborates with CSOs, NGOs, corporate institutions, and development organizations to unite diverse groups, particularly at the grassroots level, in the pursuit of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Africa. WiSA is committed to fostering new perspectives and ideas to accelerate growth and close the gender inequality gap.
