Sunyani: Mr Kofi Ofosu Boateng, the Bono Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, calling it 'deceptive' and unfriendly to cocoa and cashew farmers. Mr Boateng expressed concern over the NDC's inability to fulfill its campaign promises to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Boateng, in an interview, highlighted the troubling economic situation faced by cocoa farmers under President Mahama's administration. He accused the NDC of failing to deliver on its 'juicy' campaign promises made during Election 2024, which he claims were designed to win the votes of ordinary cocoa farmers.
Mr Boateng lamented the condition of the cashew sector, which he noted provided jobs for many people in the Bono Region. He expressed concern over the 'unprecedented decline in the price of cashew,' which he said was forcing many farmers out of business. He emphasized that the NPP is learning from these issues and is re-strategizing to regain political power in Election 2028.
Mr Boateng stated that the NDC government has failed Ghanaians in its one-year administration, arguing that President Mahama has not done anything commendable. He urged the government to take swift action to pay cocoa farmers and enhance the cashew sector to improve the lives of farmers in the region.
