Mahama Inaugurates 13-Member Presidential Advisory Group on Economy

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a 13-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), charging it with providing strategic counsel on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability, and ensuring coherence between fiscal and monetary policy.

According to Ghana News Agency, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, a member of PAGE, is set to chair meetings in the President's absence as per constitutional responsibility. The President emphasized that PAGE will advise on structural transformation, industrial development, competitiveness, and export-led growth strategies.

Additionally, the PAGE is tasked with guiding sectoral development, private sector expansion, investment mobilization, and sustainable job creation. The group will support the design and implementation of flagship national initiatives, including the 24-Hour Economy and the accelerated export development program.

President Mahama highlighted PAGE's role in conducting periodic assessments of Ghana's economic performance and proposing necessary policy adjustments. The group will provide expert input to Ghana's economic negotiations and engagement with bilateral and multilateral partners, international financial institutions, and investors.

He stressed that PAGE will report directly to the President, submitting advisory memoranda, briefs, and strategic reviews as needed. The President pointed out that PAGE existed under the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills and during his earlier tenure, now returning with an expanded and strengthened mandate to reflect the economy's evolving complexity.

The President noted the new PAGE configuration streamlines economic governance by eliminating overlapping structures such as the former economic management team. PAGE will operate alongside the Economic Policy Coordinating Committee, co-chaired by the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, which remains a vital technical platform. Mahama encouraged ongoing coordination among these bodies to achieve efficiency and cost-effective governance.

PAGE's counsel is expected to help rebuild credibility, restore fiscal discipline, attract investment, and re-establish Ghana as a serious and competitive economy. Mahama stated that this initiative is not merely about recovery but represents institutional reform and a permanent reset of economic governance culture.

Members of PAGE are expected to serve as national priorities and circumstances evolve, offering advice on major economic milestones such as the national budget, mid-year reviews, monetary policy developments, and medium-term plans. PAGE will meet at least quarterly and hold emergency meetings as needed.

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on behalf of PAGE, thanked President Mahama for his foresight in establishing the advisory group. She emphasized PAGE's commitment to moving from crisis management to achieving durable success through fostering dialogue, intellectual honesty, and collective responsibility.

The members of PAGE include Mr. Ishmael Yamson, Mr. Kwame Pianim, Madam Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, Mr. Ato Brown, Dr. Henry A. Kofi Wampah, Togbe Afede XIV, Madam Abena Amoah, Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor.
