Accra: Rapper M.anifest has voiced strong opposition to musicians using Artificial Intelligence (AI) prompts to generate songs, arguing that such practices devalue the human creativity essential to music as an art form. Speaking during an interview on Woezor TV on July 29, 2026, the 'No Shortcut to Heaven' artist clarified his stance, stating he is not entirely against AI in music production.
According to Ghana Web, M.anifest emphasized that while AI can be beneficial in production and technical processes, creating complete songs without human input crosses a line. He criticized musicians who depend solely on AI for generating music, stating that they should be ashamed of themselves. "Use AI for things like production. But making songs with prompts? That's terrible. You should be ashamed of yourself," he remarked.
The rapper contended that the lack of human involvement in music creation raises questions about the artistic value of AI-generated songs. "Without human involvement, is it art? It's just artificial," he argued. M.anifest also urged digital streaming platforms (DSPs) to ensure transparency by labeling AI-generated songs, allowing listeners to make informed choices about engaging with such content.
Drawing parallels with 'Parental Advisory' labels on explicit music, he suggested that AI-generated music should have similar identification. "There should be freedom of choice. If you like AI music, that's fine. But it should be identified as such," he stated. M.anifest, who won 'Best Rapper of the Year' at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in 2017, disclosed his personal disinterest in AI-generated music and suggested that streaming services offer users the option to filter it from their recommendations.
Reiterating his support for technology, M.anifest maintained that AI should serve as a supporting tool in the creative process rather than replacing human artistry. "Technology is technology, and you have to use it. But the idea of using AI to create everything from start to finish, I'm against it," he concluded.
