LOC for 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship Inaugurated

Accra: Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has inaugurated a seven-member panel to serve on the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship. The committee, led by Mrs. Maame Afua Houadjeto, Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum, ACI Gordon Saah, Mr. Edwin Amankwah, Mr. Gideon Hammond, Jessica Kwarteng, and Mr. Andre Ackah, have been tasked to oversee the preparation and hosting of the event. According to Ghana News Agency, the Sports Minister described the moment as a remarkable opportunity, highlighting the growth and evolution Armwrestling has undergone. He acknowledged that serving on the Local Organising Committee would be demanding but stressed that it would unlock opportunities and shape a future for the sport. President Charles Osei Asibey has played a significant role in shaping armwrestling. Under his leadership, the sport has grown beyond competition into a tool for sports employment, sports diplomacy, and international visibility for Ghana. The Member of Pa rliament for Buem Constituency urged the board to build on the momentum by delivering one of the finest championships ever staged. Mr. Iddie Adams assured that armwrestling would benefit from the sports fund, which would fuel development, empower athletes, and elevate the sport. He charged the team to approach their mandate with clarity of purpose, openness, and coordination. Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, commended the Minister for his commitment to armwrestling. He announced that the Championship would serve as the sole qualifier for the 2027 African Games in Egypt. Ghana's role as host would provide an opportunity for broader representation and a stronger presence in the continental event. The 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship is set for May 1-2, 2026.
