Cape coast: The Little Angels Trust, a charity organization, has donated medical equipment and assorted items to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital in the Central Region. The donation included essential medical supplies, packs of bottled water, children's clothing, and soft drinks, among other items.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dame Lavinia Enim, the Founder of the Trust, emphasized the organization's focus on children, particularly those who are terminally ill. She highlighted the financial impact of illnesses like cancer on families, especially those from less privileged backgrounds. Enim stressed that for poor children diagnosed with cancer, the situation could be dire since their families might struggle to afford basic necessities, let alone medical treatment.
Research indicates that annually, approximately 400,000 children and adolescents aged 0-19 develop cancer, with many unable to afford the necessary treatment. Enim reiterated the Trust's commitment to supporting these children and mentioned the organization's history of aiding various hospitals across Ghana, including Korle-bu Hospital, Princess Louise Hospital, Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Mamobi Hospital, and Interbeton Hospital in Cape Coast.
The Trust has established a solid partnership with the Department of Child Health at Korle-Bu Hospital and other institutions within the country. Over the years, they have organized health walks to raise awareness for childhood cancer and to express solidarity with terminally ill children. Enim called on corporate entities and philanthropists to assist in providing for children who are terminally ill.
Dr. Vincent Kudoh, the Medical Superintendent at Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital, expressed gratitude to the Trust for their generous contribution. He appealed to other organizations to support the hospital in its mission to deliver healthcare services to the community.
