Accra:Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticized the police's assertion that Salomey Awity Baffoe distributed videos of Ghana Jollof related to an alleged coup plot, calling the claim 'comical'.
According to Ghana Web, Kpebu appeared at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026, where he questioned the police's use of the term 'distribution', arguing that content shared on social media platforms like TikTok is automatically visible to a wide audience.
He elaborated by stating that when someone streams live on TikTok, all followers can view the content simultaneously, thus challenging the police's interpretation of 'distribution'.
Kpebu also expressed his support for Salomey's bail application, arguing that she should not have been kept in remand for such a long period based on the available information.
While not opposing the investigation into the alleged coup plot, Kpebu questioned the circumstances of Salomey's arrest, suggesting that accusations against prominent figures may have influenced the case. He emphasized that the public might distrust the arrest due to her history of controversial statements.
The Accra High Court has postponed the decision on Salomey Baffoe's bail application to September 24, 2026, allowing the prosecution more time to prepare a response.
