Accra:The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has strongly rejected allegations that its vessel monitoring system is ineffective, asserting its operational capability in overseeing vessels within Ghana's waters.
According to Ghana Web, the GMA issued a press statement on September 22, 2026, in response to comments made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye on TV3's Daily Brief, refuting the claims as false and misleading. The Authority emphasized that its surveillance system is fully operational.
The GMA detailed that it utilizes maritime domain awareness tools to ensure around-the-clock surveillance and monitoring of vessels in Ghana's maritime domain. These tools are also employed for the protection of offshore oil and gas facilities, pipelines, and submarine cables.
The Authority outlined its adherence to standard operating procedures to track vessel movements, verify identities, ensure compliance, and uphold safety, security, and environmental protection within the maritime territory.
Reiterating its stance, the GMA stated that the suggestion of unmonitored vessels in Ghana's waters is incorrect. It reaffirmed its dedication to protecting Ghana's maritime interests and urged the public to disregard the claim, relying instead on official communications from the Authority.
