Accra: An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, into the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on charges of offensive conduct and false publication.
According to Ghana News Agency, Baffoe has been charged with conduct deemed offensive and likely to breach the peace, as well as with the publication of false news. He pleaded not guilty to these charges. During the court proceedings, Baffoe's legal representatives sought bail, but the prosecution opposed this request, citing ongoing investigations. Consequently, the court denied the bail application and ordered that Baffoe be remanded into BNI custody.
Baffoe is scheduled to reappear in court on May 27, 2026. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Nyamekye informed the court that the complainant is the Ghana Police Service and provided background on Baffoe, noting that he is both a farmer and a politician. DSP Nyamekye recounted the events of April 2026, when Baffoe allegedly published an online video containing remarks critical of a Circuit Court Judge. In the video, Baffoe accused the judge of bias, improper handling of political cases, and making rulings with grammatical errors, which he claimed were intended to incite public unrest.
Furthermore, DSP Nyamekye mentioned that Baffoe continued his criticisms of the judge on social media, following comments from a pastor about the Vice President's trial at the Adenta Circuit Court, overseen by the same judge. DSP Nyamekye added that the video and other related materials are being compiled for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
