Kwadaso: Mr Eric Assibey, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso, has officially commenced the construction of a modern 24-hour economy market at the onion market near the Sofoline lorry station. The project is part of the government's flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy, aimed at transforming the existing market into a modern commercial hub to enhance trading activities, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth within the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Assibey highlighted the government's commitment to providing modern market infrastructure across the country during the sod-cutting ceremony. He stated that the initiative would improve the business environment for traders and promote local economic development. The project is designed to offer traders a safe, convenient, and well-organized marketplace, enabling them to conduct business efficiently while supporting round-the-clock commercial activities under the 24-Hour Economy initiative.
The MCE disclosed that the market would be developed on a four-acre site featuring modern facilities such as lockable shops, market sheds, stalls, warehouses, offices, and a police post. Additional amenities include a fire post, clinic, pharmacy, women's development bank, daycare center, supermarket, restaurants, food court, meat shop, cold stores, guest rooms, livestock bay, public washrooms, shower facilities, waste management facilities, and open retail spaces. Mr Assibey emphasized that the project is designed to improve security, sanitation, public health, and access to essential services, providing a conducive environment for business growth.
He announced that the project, to be executed by ECO-Planners and Engineering Consult, is expected to be completed within 36 months, with potential completion in 24 months given timely funding and logistical support. The modern market is anticipated to strengthen the local economy by creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, expanding commercial activities, and improving market access for farmers and other producers. Mr Assibey expressed appreciation to the Kwadaso traditional council for its support and collaboration in advancing the 24-Hour Economy agenda and urged residents, particularly traders, to cooperate with the contractor during construction.
Mr Assibey also addressed sanitation concerns, stating that the Assembly had deployed large refuse containers at strategic locations for improved waste collection and had undertaken extensive desilting of drains to minimize flooding. He highlighted other ongoing government projects, including the completion of a CHPS compound at Nyankyerenease and the construction of another near the Atwima Takyiman school park to enhance healthcare delivery. Additionally, several mechanized boreholes have been completed, with more under construction across the municipality.
Mr Michael Amankwaah, the Project Manager of ECO-Planners and Engineering Consult, assured the Assembly and residents of the company's commitment to professionalism and quality workmanship. He pledged collaboration with stakeholders to deliver a durable and modern market within the scheduled timeframe.
