Accra: President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed his astonishment at being appointed the second vice president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to Ghana Web, Kurt Okraku was named as the second vice president of the continental football governing body in April 2025. This appointment is notable as it marks the first time a West African Anglophone leader has attained such a prominent position within CAF under the leadership of President Patrice Motsepe.
In a conversation with GTV SPORTS+, Okraku conveyed his surprise at the appointment, attributing it to Ghana's strong reputation in African football. He expressed his inability to fully articulate his emotions but emphasized that being selected among the 54 member associations across Africa was a humbling experience.
Okraku stated, "I was surprised. I wish I could find better words to describe the way I felt, but most importantly, I was humbled by the fact that from 54 member associations across the African continent, I'm part of the chosen few to serve football at the highest level of governance."
He further reflected on the appointment, citing divine intervention and hard work as key factors, alongside the appreciation of his skill set and Ghana's influence as a football nation. As the second vice president, Okraku will now play a crucial role in formulating policies and initiatives that will shape the future of African football.
