Accra: Kpone Katamanso: Independent parliamentary aspirant for Kpone Katamanso in the Greater Accra Region, Bishop Abraham Aidoo, has led a community cleanup campaign to address flooding and poor sanitation ahead of the rainy season. Speaking at Zion Bridge, one of eight areas targeted in the exercise, Aidoo highlighted how blocked gutters and poor drainage often leave parts of the constituency inaccessible for hours after rainfall. "When it rains here, people wait up to three hours before water drains and they can move out," he stated. The cleanup initiative aimed to clear gutters and prevent flooding that adversely affects market women, workers, and drivers.
According to Ghana Web, Aidoo, who has been a resident of the constituency for nearly 19 years, identified poor roads, lack of potable water, and limited electricity as the area's most pressing issues. He mentioned that many roads have deteriorated into gutters, while some communities, such as New Ashaley Botwe, are entirely without electricity. "Our major challenges are roads, water, and electricity. You cannot point to one good road here. For water, most boreholes produce salty or hard water that cannot be used," he explained.
Aidoo further noted that Kpone Katamanso, one of the largest constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, lacks essential infrastructure, including a government senior high school and a general hospital. He also pointed out that the Zenu market is overcrowded, with no alternative markets in areas like New York and Zion. As an independent candidate, Aidoo has been supporting residents through skills training programs for over 800 women in soap making, baking, and business management, in addition to providing streetlights in some communities.
He urged the government and President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize development in the constituency, emphasizing that residents have consistently supported the NDC but have seen little improvement. "The constituency needs a change. It is not about a political party. I believe I have the vision and what it takes to help build Kpone Katamanso," Aidoo asserted. His campaign will focus on mobilizing residents to tackle issues they can address independently while advocating for government intervention on larger infrastructure needs.
