Kumasi: Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a candidate in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Ashanti Regional executive elections, has expressed confidence in securing between 62% and 65% of the votes in the chairmanship contest. Speaking to journalists on August 15, 2026, Kokofu said he was optimistic about winning the election but emphasised that his broader objective was to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to Ghana Web, Kokofu stated that his expected victory would not just be a personal achievement but a triumph for the New Patriotic Party. He highlighted his commitment to rebuilding the party's grassroots structures and uniting its members to enhance the NPP's chances in the forthcoming 2028 elections. 'We're going to win. We're looking at 62% to 65% of the votes. But higher than that, it will not be my win; it will be the win of the New Patriotic Party,' he said.
Kokofu further elaborated on his vision, expressing his desire to see Dr Mahamudu Bawumia succeed in the next presidential election while also securing a parliamentary majority for the NPP. He dismissed allegations that he was attempting to influence the election outcome by camping delegates on election day, clarifying that his campaign has primarily focused on mobilising grassroots support, promoting unity, and fostering togetherness among party members.
The Ashanti Regional chairmanship election has drawn significant attention as it features a competitive race between two prominent NPP figures. Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, and Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who is a former Bantama MP and has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency, are both contesting for the coveted position.
