Accra: Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste, Kojo Blak, has dispelled the notion that secular musicians operate outside the realm of faith, revealing that he engages in prayer and speaking in tongues before heading into the studio. In an interview with Hitz FM, the 2026 TGMA Best New Artiste of the Year shared that this ritual is an integral yet private aspect of his creative process.
According to Ghana Web, Kojo Blak emphasized that his secular music is inspired by the Holy Spirit, challenging common perceptions about the genre. "Me being secular doesn't mean I belong to the devil, because the person doing the song is actually inspired by the Holy Spirit," he stated. He further elaborated that only a few of his friends are aware of his routine, which involves stepping out for prayer and sometimes speaking in tongues before recording.
The artiste recounted a memorable experience where he lost his voice ahead of a recording session. Despite the setback, after prayer, he managed to produce one of his best Afro R and B songs. Kojo Blak underscored that his spiritual preparations are not limited to the studio, as he sometimes fasts before releasing new music. "I pray even before I release songs. Sometimes fast. I do those spiritual exercises to back what I'm doing," he explained.
