Sunyani: Contractors working on the Sunyani Outer Ring Road Project are gearing up to start asphalt works on the 34-kilometer stretch, which is part of the government's 'Big Push' road infrastructure initiative. President John Dramani Mahama initiated the construction on December 21, 2025, aiming to enhance economic growth, alleviate congestion, and improve connectivity in the regional capital.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kofi Kamkam, the Site Engineer of Kofi Job Company Limited, reported that the earthworks, including cutting and filling to prepare for pavement layers, are progressing. Mr. Kamkam indicated that approximately six kilometers have been prepared for formation, bringing them closer to asphaltic preparations. Concrete works on various sections are also advancing, with 'Lot 1' and 'Lot 2' completion rates at 49 percent and 43 percent, respectively.
Mr. Kamkam expressed gratitude for the support from traditional authorities, residents, and stakeholders, and pledged the company's commitment to delivering quality work. He assured that the project would meet required standards and be completed within the two-year timeframe. The road project connects communities such as Fiapre, Nanketewa, Old Abesim, Old Odomase, and New Odomase to the main Sunyani Abesim-highway. Residents along the route have commended the contractors for the swift progress and expressed hope that the project would not face delays.
Mr. Joshua Kwadwo Kyere, a resident of Asufufu, voiced satisfaction with the project's progress and promised community support for the contractors. He also urged the contractors to manage dust from the construction to protect public health. Meanwhile, Madam Comfort Akrugu, a local shopkeeper, expressed optimism that the project would be completed on time, facilitating movement and economic activities.
