Accra: Ghanaian musician KiDi has opened up about the emotional moment he discovered he was going to become a father while he was still a university student, admitting that the news left him frightened and uncertain about the future.
According to Ghana Web, the singer revealed on the Konnected Minds Podcast that he was still trying to figure out his own life when he learned he was expecting a child. KiDi admitted, "I was scared. I was in uni. I was scared. I was shaken," highlighting the impact the news had on his academic life, as he had to contend with resit examinations while grappling with the reality of impending fatherhood.
The 'signature' hitmaker expressed his apprehensions about raising a child while he was still in the process of establishing his identity and career. "So how to raise a child? I was still even raising myself. I was still trying to figure out my place in the world. So to come and add another human to that equation was such a scary concept," he shared.
Despite his fears, KiDi found strength and motivation in the unwavering support of his family, particularly his mother. "One thing that kept me going was I always find a way. No matter how difficult it was. I knew I had my family. I knew I had those people behind me. My mom was always going to show up for me," he stated.
The support from his family enabled KiDi to complete his education and successfully tackle his resit examinations. "It helped me to finish my education. I even took some vim to go and write my resits," he added.
KiDi also disclosed that he discovered the pregnancy early on but was unable to accompany the child's mother to antenatal appointments due to living in different countries. "I wasn't able to be there until he was actually born because we were in different countries," he explained.
