Accra: The Ketu South Municipal Assembly has acquired a 20-acre parcel of land at Klikor-Lotakor to serve as a new landfill site, as part of efforts to improve sanitation and waste management in the municipality. Mr. Nicholas Worclachie, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu South, announced that preparatory works were already underway to make the site operational, including the construction of access roads to facilitate waste evacuation from communities across the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, the top priority with the new site secured is the long-awaited evacuation of the Dekeme waste site, popularly known as Dekeme Borla, in Aflao. Mr. Worclachie emphasized that the landfill would significantly improve sanitation and restore cleanliness in the municipality, which has faced waste management challenges over the years.
Mr. Worclachie stressed that the Assembly was committed to modernizing waste management systems to protect public health and the environment. He assured that every fund earmarked for sanitation would be used strictly for that purpose. He also highlighted that sanitation remained a top priority of President John Dramani Mahama's administration, aimed at promoting a clean Ghana, and he assured residents that, as the President's representative, he would work tirelessly to implement the policy locally.
The MCE commended Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, for her continuous support of sanitation initiatives in the constituency. Mr. Worclachie urged residents to complement the Assembly's efforts by keeping their surroundings clean and actively participating in National Sanitation Day exercises, emphasizing that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility.
