Ketu North Scholar Innovates Digital Attendance System, Receives Full Support

Ketu north: Toussaint Afadalo, a beneficiary of the Ketu North Scholars initiative under the Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme, is gaining recognition for his innovation and academic excellence. As part of ongoing support under the programme, he has been presented with a laptop at Melvic Technologies and is also benefiting from full (100 per cent) tuition sponsorship to enable him to focus on his studies and research.

According to Ghana News Agency, Toussaint is a Level 400 student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Ghana and a former Vice President of the Engineering Students Union of Ghana (ESUG). He is the developer of 'SignAttendance,' an innovative digital attendance system designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in academic environments. The system replaces the traditional paper-based register with a smart digital solution that incorporates QR code sign-ins, real-time selfie verification, GPS geo-fencing, elevation checks, and two-factor authentication for lecturers.

The technology aims to eliminate proxy attendance, improve accuracy, and enable real-time tracking of student participation. Following a demonstration of the system, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, Dean of Engineering Sciences, commended the innovation and offered recommendations for further development. The Faculty has also expressed interest in adopting the system on a larger scale, with plans to begin implementation from the next academic semester.

Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North and founder of the scholarship scheme, together with the Board, congratulated Toussaint for his ingenuity and commitment to excellence. They noted that his achievement reflects the core objective of the scholarship initiative-to empower young people with the tools and opportunities needed to innovate and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Mr Agbana reaffirmed the scheme's commitment to identifying and supporting more talented individuals within the constituency, stressing that the programme focuses not only on financial assistance but also on nurturing a new generation of problem-solvers and innovators. 'We are here to make impact,' he said, underscoring the broader vision of transforming lives through education, innovation, and opportunity.
