Keta: Mr. Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the Volta Region, has reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to ensuring equitable development across all communities within the municipality. He dismissed claims that projects meant for Keta township had been diverted to other communities, including Abor.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Seade made these remarks during an interview following a community engagement with residents of the Keta Central Electoral Area. The discussions focused on the proposed relocation of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Pharmacy Campus and the establishment of a 24-hour economy market in the municipality.
Mr. Seade assured residents that all communities would benefit from development initiatives under President John Dramani Mahama's administration. He emphasized his openness to listening to the community's concerns and reiterated that his role is to ensure inclusive growth across the municipality.
Explaining the relocation of the UHAS Pharmacy Campus to Abor, Mr. Seade cited the unavailability of suitable land in Keta. He noted that previous administrations' architectural plans did not designate any part of Keta's reclaimed land for the project. Leaders in the Abor area had voluntarily released over 50 acres for the campus and the market, providing a viable alternative location.
The projects align with the government's broader goals of decentralizing higher education and enhancing healthcare training in the region. Mr. Seade highlighted that the 24-hour economy market would boost employment, trading hours, and revenue for traders and the Assembly.
He appealed to Keta Central residents, who advocate for local project siting, to release suitable land for the initiatives. Land availability, he stressed, is crucial for project commencement, and residents' cooperation is key to success.
Community feedback was generally positive, with some residents welcoming the proposals as potential economic transformers. They stressed the importance of transparent land acquisition and compensation where needed. Community leaders emphasized the projects' potential to generate employment and urged youth involvement in planning and implementation.
Market women expressed optimism about the 24-hour market, anticipating business growth and extended customer service. They requested sanitation and security measures in the project's design.
The Assembly has committed to ongoing stakeholder engagement to ensure inclusivity and minimize conflicts, promising regular updates as discussions progress with UHAS and other partners. Meanwhile, some youth have expressed dissatisfaction, calling instead for the renovation of the Keta Central Market and improvement of road infrastructure.
