Kaporinia: Kacstone Record's, a private entertainment and talent management company, has supported the Nakolo-Kaporinia community in the Kassena-Nankana West District with GHS8,800.00 to help complete a community-initiated electricity extension project.
According to Ghana News Agency, the support is part of the company's corporate social responsibility initiative, aimed at helping the farming community connect to the national electricity grid. For over a decade, communal efforts to bring power to the area had been unsuccessful, leaving residents without access to electricity.
Mr Thomas Bugase, a youth activist leading appeals for support, stated that residents had been working for years to mobilize funds for electricity poles and materials. The community began organizing itself in 2012 to request electricity extension but initially lacked support from the government and NGOs.
Through communal contributions, residents managed to secure six electricity poles, enabling some households to drill boreholes for vegetable farming. Motivated by this progress, the community mobilized resources to purchase 12 additional poles for wider electricity access.
Mr Bugase noted that the community needed about GHS16,700 for cables, workmanship, and installation materials to connect to the national grid. Although some funds were raised internally, a gap remained. Following an appeal to Kacstone Record's, the company donated GHS8,800, helping to secure the remaining funds.
He emphasized that access to electricity would allow residents to drill more boreholes for irrigation, supporting dry-season vegetable farming. Mr Michael Asagewe, Assembly Member for the Nakolo Electoral Area, highlighted that appeals to the District Assembly had been unsuccessful, prompting the community to take action independently.
Mrs Nancy Denia, speaking on behalf of the women, mentioned that electricity would empower women to start small businesses. Mr Raymond Adda, representing Kacstone Record's Managing Director, explained that the company decided to support the initiative after a needs assessment confirmed the community's proactive steps.
Pe Gedeon Aloah, the Chief of Nakolo, expressed gratitude to Kacstone Record's, emphasizing the importance of creating economic opportunities for the youth to prevent migration and exposure to violent extremists.
