Kumasi: The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, has announced his intention to seek re-election, claiming the title of the 'most suffered' General Secretary in the party's history following the NPP's defeat in the 2024 general elections.
According to Ghana Web, Koduah made these remarks during an appearance on OTEC FM's afternoon political talk show, Dwabrem, hosted by Prince Nii Ardey, known as Dr Cash, on Monday, February 23, 2026. Koduah shared that the period surrounding the 2024 elections was one of the most challenging in his political career.
Koduah explained that the absence of the party's National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, due to health issues, placed a significant burden on him during a critical period for the party. This left him as the focal point for criticism following the party's electoral defeat. 'I'm the most suffered NPP General Secretary,' Koduah stated, highlighting the weight of responsibility he carried.
Despite the challenges, Koduah expressed that the experience had fortified him for future political endeavors. 'I've learnt a lot from our 2024 election defeat. I now have more experience and a deeper understanding of what we must do differently,' he noted, emphasizing the lessons learned from the past setbacks.
Koduah also underscored the importance of consistent leadership as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections. He affirmed the party's commitment to maintaining Dr. Bawumia as their flagbearer, expressing confidence in this strategic direction. 'The party will remain consistent with its leadership as we also maintain Dr Bawumia as our flagbearer,' he said.
Further, Koduah highlighted the need for seasoned leadership to reorganize and reposition the NPP for the upcoming elections. 'I am guided by history and experience because the NPP needs an experienced hand for election 2028,' he emphasized, signaling his readiness to lead the party towards victory.
Koduah's announcement comes amid escalating internal discussions within the NPP as national executives gear up for internal elections, where key positions will be contested or defended.
