Accra: Energy and Green Transition Minister, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has engaged Vice Chancellors of universities in Ghana to explore opportunities for stronger collaboration between industry and academia in support of the country's energy transition and broader economic transformation. In a post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Jinapor highlighted the critical discussions that took place, focusing on the role of research, innovation, and knowledge exchange in driving Ghana's green transition.
According to Ghana Web, a significant area of the discussions was the government's commitment to expanding the use of renewable energy across public universities. Dr. Jinapor stated that the government intends to provide solar power systems for academic facilities at public universities, enabling them to fulfill their electricity needs through renewable energy sources.
Dr. Jinapor also mentioned the plan to complement these efforts with the installation of all-in-one solar-powered streetlights across university campuses. This initiative aims to enhance sustainability and support the universities in their energy needs.
He emphasized the crucial role that Ghana's universities play in the country's energy transition and reiterated the government's commitment to creating an enabling environment for academia to contribute significantly to Ghana's energy future.
