Accra: The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, has assured taxpayers that the Authority will continue to leverage technology and innovation to improve tax administration and make compliance simpler and more efficient. Speaking with the media on the sidelines of stakeholder engagement on the rollout of the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) on June 5, 2026, Sarpong said the new platform forms part of GRA's broader digital transformation agenda aimed at enhancing service delivery and improving the taxpayer experience.
According to Ghana Web, Sarpong emphasized the necessity of evolving with technology to meet changing demands and expectations, highlighting the Authority's decision to introduce ITAS after operating its previous platform, GIFMIS, for more than five years. "We believe that it is about time to introduce a new system that will ensure that we continue improving the experience for taxpayers," Sarpong stated. He explained that ITAS is expected to serve as the Authority's medium-term technology platform, particularly as the GRA seeks to integrate its operations with other government systems to improve compliance and service delivery.
The Commissioner-General acknowledged the potential for temporary disruptions during the transition to new technology but reassured taxpayers of the GRA's commitment to maintaining stability. "I want to assure taxpayers that changing technology sometimes leads to disruptions because people have to learn new systems," he said. Sarpong further noted that despite the implementation of ITAS, the Authority does not intend to frequently replace the platform in the short term, stressing the importance of stability for businesses and taxpayers.
Moreover, Sarpong indicated that the GRA would continue to monitor technological developments and embrace future innovations to enhance service delivery. "As we move into the future and new technologies emerge, we will embrace them and ensure that we keep focus on ensuring the systems we have continue to be efficient, simpler, and provide a better experience for taxpayers so that they can seamlessly fulfil their tax obligations," he stated. The ITAS platform is expected to streamline tax administration processes, improve compliance, and strengthen interactions between the GRA and taxpayers as part of ongoing efforts to modernise Ghana's tax system.
