Accra: A Ghanaian woman has recounted how she and a friend allegedly had their drinks spiked by strangers during an outing at a popular restaurant and bar in Osu. Her account comes on the back of the arrest of a 36-year-old businessman from East Legon in Accra over allegations of drugging, sexual assault, filming, and sharing intimate videos of women online without their consent.
According to Ghana Web, the suspect was arrested by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in a joint operation with the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI). Narrating her ordeal in a Facebook post on May 13, 2026, the woman, identified on social media as Nkunim Abena Owusua, said the incident happened when she and four friends visited the popular nightlife spot.
She described how one of her friends, Akosua, went to the bar to get ginger shots but took too long, leading her to check on her. Upon entering the bar area, she found her friend speaking with two unknown men. They took the shots at the bar and returned to their table, but shortly afterward, her friend began to feel unwell.
The woman stated that her friend later contacted her boyfriend and was rushed to Nyaho Hospital that same night. In a distressing turn of events, Akosua felt nauseous and vomited, revealing a tablet in her puke. Owusua also began to behave unusually without realizing it, including acting extremely hyper and climbing tables at a different bar after leaving Republic.
She recounted getting a ride home with no memory of how she arrived. The following morning, she passed out after being awakened by a call regarding a food order. She was rushed to Lapaz Community Hospital, Christian Village, where a doctor administered immediate emergency treatment.
Medical tests confirmed she had been drugged and placed on intensive treatment to flush the substances from her system, requiring 12 drips. The woman emphasized the importance of not blaming victims of drugging and sexual assault, stressing the dangers of such attitudes and the unawareness victims may have about their situation.
