Accra: Veteran Ghanaian actress Irene Opare has hit back at media personality MC Yaa Yeboah following comments she made about her recent appeal to President John Dramani Mahama. Earlier, in an interview with Nkonkonsa, Irene Opare pleaded with Mahama to 'turn and look at her,' stating that she felt ignored by the party despite her long association with the pre-NDC era.
According to Ghana Web, Irene Opare's statements sparked a response from MC Yaa Yeboah, who claimed the veteran actress was 'begging' for assistance. In a sharp rebuttal, Irene Opare rejected that tag, insisting she is well established and not seeking handouts. She explained that her appeal was tied to her upcoming 60th birthday project, dubbed Clean Mama, rather than personal needs.
"I want Yaa Yeboah to know that I am well established. I am 60 years old, and maybe you don't know anything about me or know my house, but I am well established. I am not begging. You are a journalist, and you have to listen to the whole conversation," Opare stated, emphasizing that her request was for government sponsorship of her Clean Mama project and not personal assistance.
Irene Opare cautioned Yaa Yeboah against making uninformed statements about her, adding that she would not allow her name to be dragged through the mud. "Go and listen to the whole interview before you talk. If you use bloggers' captions on social media to make a statement, you will be wrong. When he asked me about the issue with the president, I didn't want to even comment; that is why I paused... I don't want to use an F-word on your people," she fumed.
The veteran actress concluded her remarks with a stern warning to Yaa Yeboah, "I don't take shit; tell Yaa Yeboah to just shut up because she can be my daughter. That should be her first and last. If she claims she is a journalist, she should go and read everything before she comments."
