Swedru: The Central Regional Director of Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Juliette Dufie Otami, has confirmed the arrest of three students following an assault on a fellow student during an inter-schools athletics event.
According to Ghana Web, a video shared by JoyNews depicted a student from Obrachire SHS being attacked by individuals in uniform who were seen throwing stones and physically assaulting him. An individual who attempted to intervene was also attacked, leading to both victims suffering beatings.
Dr. Juliette Dufie stated that aside from the police investigation, the GES is conducting its own probe to ensure the perpetrators are punished. She noted that GES is cooperating with the police, and sanctions will be determined based on the findings. So far, three arrests have been made, but identifying teachers involved has been challenging due to the incident occurring outside the field.
The Central Regional GES Director highlighted that while the arrested individuals claim to be students, initial checks suggest otherwise, though investigations are ongoing to verify their status. This incident is part of a series of hooliganism cases in the 2026 inter-schools competitions, prompting GES to intensify efforts to address the issue.
