Accra: A woman at the centre of a viral video involving alleged staff of Bills Micro Credit has denied claims that she fell on her own during the confrontation, insisting she was pushed while holding her eight-month-old baby.
According to Ghana Web, Hagar Emmasey, speaking in an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem, said the incident occurred when staff of the microcredit company visited her home over an outstanding loan balance. Emmasey recounted the events, stating that she did not fall by herself but was pushed by one of the staff members, which led to her falling with her baby.
Emmasey has been taking loans from the company for about 15 years, with the most recent one being GHS1,000, which she agreed to repay within 13 weeks. She normally pays her instalments through mobile money vendors, as she is not familiar with making the transfers herself.
She mentioned that she had already paid most of the amount and only had GHS300 left to settle. She handed the money to a mobile money vendor to send to the company and assumed the payment was successful after two weeks passed without any communication from the company.
The confrontation escalated last Friday around 5 p.m. when some staff of the company allegedly arrived at her residence demanding the outstanding amount. Emmasey pleaded with them to allow her until Monday to confirm the transaction with the mobile money vendor.
During the confrontation, Emmasey further alleged that one of the staff members seized her mobile phone. As she attempted to retrieve it, she was allegedly pushed by another staff member, causing her to fall while carrying her baby.
Following the incident, Emmasey reported the matter to the police and was issued a medical report for treatment at the Atomic Polyclinic. The police have since begun investigations into the incident.
