‘I Counted Over 50 Messages’ – Otto Addo Reveals Players’ Support After Black Stars Dismissal

Accra: Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that over 50 players reached out to him following his dismissal, describing the messages as the "best validation" of his work with the national team. According to Ghana Web, Addo spoke to German football magazine 11Freunde about the unexpected outpouring of support he received after the Ghana Football Association ended his second stint as head coach on March 31. Addo shared that more than 50 players contacted him, including some who had never been called up to the national team, which he found particularly uplifting. Addo elaborated on his approach to maintaining communication with players, even those not selected for the squad. He emphasized the importance of explaining his decisions, including tactical choices, to ensure players understood why they might not be included. This effort to engage with players appeared to resonate, as evidenced by the numerous messages of support he received. The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach admitted tha t the messages he received after his dismissal were significant to him. Despite the challenges that led to his departure, such as the failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and a series of disappointing friendly results, including losses to Austria and Germany, the players' support served as a meaningful validation of his tenure. Addo's efforts had previously secured Ghana's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an achievement that remains a highlight of his coaching career with the national team.
