Sunyani: WENSAH International Foundation, a charity organization based in Sunyani, has distributed sanitary pads to girls from basic schools in the Sunyani Municipality in celebration of the 2026 Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD).
According to Ghana News Agency, MHD is observed globally on May 28 each year, aiming to raise awareness about menstruation. It encourages governments and stakeholders to act collectively, adopt policies, and enhance menstrual health and hygiene services. In this initiative, 150 girls from St Patrick and Nyamaa Basic Schools in Sunyani each received sanitary pads to manage their menstrual cycles.
During a short presentation ceremony, Mr. Isaac Osei Amponsah, CEO of WENSAH Foundation International, expressed gratitude to supporting partners including Ignatius Eye Clinic, Grace Land Roofing System, and Indomie Ghana. He mentioned that besides the donation, the foundation and its partners are working with school authorities to identify and provide monthly sanitary pads to less privileged girls.
Mr. Amponsah also advised the girls to avoid pre-marital sex, emphasizing that they should not succumb to being lured into sex just to acquire sanitary pads. He warned that pre-marital and unhealthy sexual activities could disrupt their education and affect their future prospects.
Mrs. Felicia Konadu, Health Promotion Manager at the Sunyani Municipal Directorate of Health, addressed the girls, reassuring them that menstruation is a natural part of life. She urged the girls to maintain confidence and not feel inferior. Mrs. Konadu also called on the government to improve sanitary facilities, such as changing rooms in basic schools, to help keep girls in school during their menstrual periods.
Some beneficiaries expressed happiness for receiving the pads and thanked the foundation and its partners for their support, encouraging further assistance to promote personal hygiene.
