Hohoe Municipal Assembly Mandates Health Screenings for Food and Drink Vendors

Hohoe: Food and drink vendors in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta region are set to undergo the Annual Medical Screening and Health Education Exercise. This initiative is in compliance with Section 97(1) of the Food and Drugs Authority Regulations and Section 25(11) of Hohoe Municipal Assembly Byelaws, 2018.

According to Ghana News Agency, a release signed by Mr. Wisdom Kporngor, the Hohoe Municipal Coordinating Director, highlighted that all individuals involved in the processing, preparation, handling, sale, and distribution of food and drinks must undergo medical screening as required by law. This measure aims to protect public health by preventing the spread of food and waterborne diseases and infections.

The screening exercise is scheduled from Monday, August 17 to Friday, September 25, 2026, and will encompass all communities within the Municipality. Each vendor will incur a cost of GHS 50.00 for the screening. Mr. Kporngor stated that the Environmental Health Unit of the Assembly will organize the exercise in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and Public Health Promotion partners.

He further warned that any food and drink vendor failing to participate in the exercise would face sanctions as per the provisions of the Food and Drugs Authority Regulations and the Hohoe Municipality Assembly Byelaws.
