Accra: The Adentan High Court (2) has issued an order for the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ms. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, to be served with a motion on notice seeking her committal for contempt of court. The court further instructed that she be served with a hearing notice, with both documents to be prominently posted on the Adentan High Court notice board and at the Minister's residence.
According to Ghana News Agency, the court also mandated that copies of the documents be served on the Chief Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and published in the Daily Graphic. Ms. Ocloo has been summoned to appear before the court to justify why she should not be held in contempt and potentially face imprisonment.
The orders stem from the granting of substituted service in a case titled: Republic v. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo (Defendant), ex parte Bernard Oduro, suing through his lawful attorney, Felix Mishio Ankonam. The case is connected to a dispute over a parcel of land claimed by the applicant and the proposed relocation of the Dodowa Market onto it, with the next hearing scheduled for June 24, 2026.
The conflict escalated when Ms. Ocloo reportedly moved forward with plans to develop the land, despite an interlocutory injunction secured by Mr. Bernard Oduro on October 22, 2025, which restrained her from doing so pending the case's resolution. Mr. Oduro alleged that despite being served with the order, Ms. Ocloo directed individuals to clear and grade the land, leading to their arrest by the Ghana Police Service. However, she allegedly intervened for their release, asserting her directives.
Further allegations include Ms. Ocloo's public acknowledgment of the litigation and injunction in radio interviews, where she expressed intentions to proceed with her plans, claiming it was part of a national assignment. Mr. Oduro contends that these actions represent wilful disobedience of court orders and an attempt by the Minister to place herself above the law, prompting the current legal proceedings.
