Bogoso: Mr Patrick Appiah Mensah, the Managing Director of Heath Goldfields, has announced the successful payment of all outstanding salaries and statutory arrears to the former and current workers of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine, totaling approximately $22 million. This significant payment covers worker entitlements and severance packages for 212 workers, addressing legacy debts inherited from the Mine's previous operators, Future Global Resources (FGR).
According to Ghana News Agency, the announcement was made at the Mine's premises, following a 'Thank You' walk organized by the workers to express gratitude for the resolution of the financial obligations after prolonged periods of unrest. Mr Mensah emphasized that clearing the legacy debts demonstrates Heath Goldfields' dedication to stabilizing the Mine and fostering community development. He highlighted the company's strategic collaboration with the Ghana Mine Workers Union, which involved a structured payment roadmap, ensuring all commitments were met.
Mr Mensah reassured that the welfare of the workers remains a priority, recognizing them as essential to the Mine's sustainability. Meanwhile, Mr Raymond Bimpong Boateng, Secretary of the Heath Goldfields Branch of the Ghana Mine Workers' Union, commended the management's efforts in fulfilling its promises. He noted that the workers' appreciation walk symbolizes their acknowledgment of the management's commitment and the positive outcomes of their labor under FGR.
Mr Boateng also pledged the workers' dedication to contributing to the Mine's growth and expressed optimism in Heath Goldfields' potential to achieve the standards of industry leaders like Damang Mines, Newmont, and AngloGold Ashanti. He conveyed confidence in the management's capability to restore stability to the Mine and aid the development of surrounding communities.
