Kasoa: Former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson, has made a bold claim regarding the outcome of the 2024 elections, alleging that her parliamentary seat was not lost but rather 'snatched' from her. This assertion was made during her appearance on UTV, which was monitored by GhanaWeb on September 11, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, Hawa Koomson expressed her stance by stating, "I did not lose the election. My seat was snatched from me." As she seeks to become the National Women's Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Koomson addressed the notion of her being perceived as a violent individual. She pointed to her composed reaction when her son was allegedly attacked in 2024 as evidence to dispel such perceptions.
Koomson further commented on the perception of her character, referencing an incident involving a gun during the 2020 elections. Despite being labeled as violent, she emphasized her resilience and determination to serve the NPP in a different capacity, declaring, "I am not a violent person, and I cannot be intimidated."
Addressing her future political ambitions, Hawa Koomson shared that some residents of the Awutu Senya East constituency have expressed a desire for her to return and contest the parliamentary seat. However, she stated that her current focus is on serving the party nationwide, rather than concentrating solely on Kasoa. "People in the constituency want me to stand as MP, but I want to work with every constituency now and not Kasoa. As National Women's Organiser, I will lead by example," she explained.
Hawa Koomson had been the representative for Awutu Senya East since 2012 but was defeated by the NDC candidate Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor in the 2024 parliamentary election. Okunor secured 50,886 votes, surpassing Koomson's 45,638 votes to claim the constituency seat.
