Accra: The Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Angelo Dogbe, has highlighted the Guinea Fowl Bazaar as a strategic initiative aimed at promoting northern culture and strengthening tourism in Ghana. Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb's Farida Gebril, he explained that the event serves as a platform to showcase the rich cultural diversity of northern Ghana to a wider audience.
According to Ghana Web, Dogbe emphasized that these cultural elements can be developed into viable tourism products that can be preserved for future generations. He noted that the initiative is helping to bridge the knowledge gap between northern and southern Ghana, aiming to bring northern culture and experiences to the south.
Angelo Dogbe further explained that such exposure could spark interest in domestic tourism, motivating more people to visit the northern regions. The event's choice of guinea fowl as the central theme was also discussed, with Dogbe highlighting its cultural significance in northern Ghana.
He mentioned that guinea fowl is considered a cultural symbol and is often used as a gesture of welcome in northern homes. Additionally, Dogbe pointed out the health benefits of guinea fowl, noting that it is a preferred option among medical professionals due to its low-fat content and taste.
Dogbe stressed the economic potential of preserving and promoting such cultural assets. He assured that the Ghana Tourism Authority will support initiatives that promote tourism and cultural development, encouraging more traffic to the north.
