Accra: The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned prospective students and employers against enrolling in or accepting certificates from 70 institutions it says are not recognised in Ghana.
According to Ghana Web, in a public notice dated May 28, 2026, GTEC stated that the affected institutions have not met the required quality assurance standards. The Commission warned that qualifications obtained from these institutions may not be recognised for academic, professional, or employment purposes, as reported by citinewsroom.com on June 1, 2026.
'The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) wishes to inform the public that the institutions listed below are currently not recognised by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns,' the notice stated. 'Accordingly, the public is advised to exercise due diligence concerning any certificates issued by these institutions,' it added.
The Commission urged students seeking admission into tertiary institutions to verify the accreditation status of schools before enrolling to avoid future complications. The warning comes amid ongoing efforts by GTEC to strengthen quality assurance and protect the integrity of Ghana's tertiary education system.
